Nutrition and Health - Tips for Achieving Balanced Nutrition
6/4/2025
Our eating habits always reflect, in one way or another, on our health and the well-being of our bodies. Food has both positive and negative effects on our health, which is influenced by our habits and the types of foods that dominate our diet.
To stay safe from the harms of food, we must understand which diet is suitable for our health. Do we have chronic diseases, and how can we address them through nutrition? Additionally, how can we distinguish between healthy and unhealthy foods?
1. Food
Food includes the meals and drinks that contain nutrients beneficial to the body. It aids in healthy growth, protects against diseases such as diabetes, cancers, tooth decay, weight and stomach disorders, and serves as an energy source that helps the body perform its daily functions.
Food sources are divided into groups: vegetables and fruits, grains, meats, dairy products, and energy supplements. Each food group contains a variety of nutrients, and it is impossible to obtain all nutrients from just one type of food.
We must consume these foods with their varied elements in balance, avoiding excessive deficiency, which causes malnutrition, and avoiding overconsumption, which leads to weight gain—considered one of the major health problems for humans.
2. Food and Healthy Nutrition
It is balanced food that contains all the essential nutrients, including proteins, carbohydrates, vitamins, water, and fats.
3. Food and Diseases
Following a healthy diet protects us from a range of chronic diseases such as diabetes, cancers, and heart diseases.
On the other hand, relying on and excessively consuming unhealthy foods may play a role in causing certain illnesses.
4. Examples of Healthy Foods
Vegetables and fruits of all kinds.
Whole grains, such as brown rice and other grains.
Healthy fats, like olive oil.
Proteins, such as chickpeas, red meats, and fish.
5. Important Nutrition Tips
Healthy food is not limited to consuming a specific type of food; rather, you should eat a balanced diet rich in a variety of essential nutrients. Below are some tips:
Consume foods with calorie levels appropriate for your physical activity.
Eat a healthy, diverse, and varied diet that includes as many nutrients as possible.
Increase your intake of vegetables and fruits.
Reduce the consumption of saturated fats and sugar.
Minimize the amount of salt in your meals.
Engage in physical exercise.
Drink sufficient amounts of water.
If you suffer from a chronic disease such as diabetes or high blood pressure, you must consult your doctor, as they can guide you to beneficial foods and warn you against those that may harm your specific health condition.
